Separated from M. tubinaris on genetic data and morphology. Monotypic.	Known from four localities in C & SC Vietnam (Bac Huong Hoa and Ngoc Linh nature reserves, Ba To, and Kon Ka Kinh National Park).	Head-body 40-49 mm , tail 33-44- 8 mm , ear 13-2-14- 2 mm , hindfoot 5- 5-8 mm , forearm 34-4-37- 3 mm ; weight 5- 5 g . Pelage is long and silky; dorsally very dark brown (hairs very dark brown, almost black, for basal four-fifths, then light gray fading to darker tip, with longer silvery guard hairs mixed throughout); ventrally grayish white (hairs very dark brown, nearly black, for basal two-thirds, then white to tip). Dorsal pelage extends sparsely onto wings, uropatagium, thumbs, and feet; ventral pelage extends sparsely onto uropatagium and a little onto wings. Faceis sparsely haired except long protuberant nostrils, which are naked. Ears are short and broad with smoothly convex anterior margins, slight notch on posterior margin, and broadly rounded tip; tragus is long, narrow, and tapering toward pointed tip. Wing attaches to base of claw on first toe. Skull has relatively inflated rostrum and uninflated braincase; sagittal crest is lacking, and lambdoidal crests relatively well developed. C' is shorter than P*; P* is relatively short and small at about half the crown area and slightly more than half the height of P*; mesostyle of M' and M”is greatly reduced, both having a flat labial surface; talonid of M, and M, is equal in size to respective trigonid. Chromosomal complement has 2n = 44 and FN = 50.	Collected on forest trails near a stream in disturbed secondary forest, and on a ridgetop in primary montane forest; at elevations of 400-1600 m .
