This species is monotypic.	Known only from one locality in Ghana and five in Cameroon .	Head-body 66 mm , tail 27 mm , ear 19 mm , hindfoot 9 mm (all details from male holotype), forearm 32-35 mm. Fur is short and sparse, covering rump but not extending onto uropatagium, dark sepia-brown above with no grizzling or spots, pale brown to dark beige below becoming paler mid-ventrally but with no mid-ventral markings or contrasting ventral flank-stripe. Upper lip has five well-defined wrinkles on each side and many spoon-hairs. Wings and uropatagium are blackish brown. Ears are blackish brown and relatively short (extending halfway along muzzle when laid flat), inner margins connected by interaural band of skin having knob-like protuberance and backward-facing pocket but no interaural crest. Tragusis small, subrectangular, and concealed by antitragus which is large and roughly rectangular. Anterior palate is narrowly emarginated, and basisphenoid pits are moderately deep. As is typical for Mops , cusps on M? have third ridge much reduced. Chromosomal complement has 2n = 48 and FNa = 54.	.owland rainforest.	No information.	No information. It is close to meeting the threshold for criterion A2c </p>	The species is known only from rainforest, at one locality in Ghana and five in Cameroon (El-Rayah 1981, Smith et al. 1986). It is likely to occur where suitable rainforest habitat exists and likely to extend into the Northern Rainforest–Savanna Mosaic (Happold 2013). It has not been recorded from disturbed areas.	The species is considered to be threatened by loss and degradation of forest habitats within its known range, largely through the conversion of land to agricultural use and the extraction of firewood and timber.	It is considered to be a very rare species.	Decreasing	This little-known species has only been recorded from Ghana and Cameroon (with type locality of "15 km S Kumba") and there are no records from the intervening countries of Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. A specimen from Sierra Leone, formerly identified as Tadarida petersoni (Koopman 1989), is now considered to represent Mops brachypterus (Grubb et al. 1998, Happold 2013). Terrestrial	There are no known conservation measures in place for this species and it is not known if the species is present within any protected areas. There is a need to maintain areas of suitable forest within the range of this species. Further studies are needed into the distribution, abundance, breeding biology and general ecology of this bat.
