Unlike Pipistrellus papuanus , it does not roost in holes in coconut palms. The species forages in tall primary and secondary tropical moist forest, areas recently logged, gardens, villages and urban areas. On New Guinea, this species has been recorded emerging from their roost at dusk to forage on aerial insects. A maternity colony of 200 bats in a cave was active in June on the island of New Ireland in the Bismarck Archipelago (Flannery 1995b, Bonaccorso 1998). In the Solomon Islands it has a short (4-5 millisecond) frequency modulated echolocation call dropping from around 70 to 47 kHz with a brief quasi-constant frequency section around 47.5 kHz (Pennay and Lavery 2017), similar calls have also been observed from the species in Manus Island in Papua New Guinea (Armstrong et al. 2015).

There is widespread logging and habitat clearance for gardens throughout the range of this species, however the species appears tolerant of these disturbances. Feral cats and invasive species, particularly fire ants may pose a threat to the species in island populations.

Poorly known but presumed to be large. It was recorded as “super abundant” and found in all habitats on Manus Island by Armstrong et al. (2015). Acoustic sampling in the Solomon Islands found this species to be one of the most commonly recorded species in a range of habitats including villages, gardens and patches of recently logged forest (Pennay and Lavery 2017).
	Stable
This widespread species ranges from the island of Biak (Indonesia), through parts of the island of New Guinea (Indonesia and Papua New Guinea), the Bismark Archipelago, many islands of Milne Bay Province, and the island of Bougainville (all Papua New Guinea), to the Solomon Islands as far south as the island of Nendo (Flannery 1995a,b; Bonaccorso 1998). Its distribution on the island of New Guinea is poorly known. It has been recorded between sea level and 2,400 m asl.
 Terrestrial
It is presumed to occur in some protected areas. Important roosting and foraging sites should be identified and protected.
	Australasian FALSE	FALSE	Global	Simmons, N. B., & Cirranello, A. L. (2023). Batnames.org Species List Version 1.4 (1.4).
