Greatest lengths of skulls are 50-54- 3 mm . Hair of Wallace's Stripe-faced Fruit Bat is soft and silky. Face and crown are reddish brown to ocherous buff, with 11-105 mm nasal white stripe, one spot above cach eye, and white mustache. Eyes are brown. Ears are light brown, naked except at bases, and attenuated at tips. Throat, chest, and belly have light reddish-brown fur. Occiput, nape, shoulders, and back are usually gray, often with hint of reddish brown. Dorsal forearm is grayish white, with white humeral spot. Wings have patterns of translucent bands and dots, with bands generally parallel to digits. Wing membranesattach to sides of back and insert on second toe. Index claw is present, and all claws are black. Rostrum is more gracile, and teeth are smaller than in the Mindoro Stripe-faced Fruit Bat (S. mindorensis ). Posterior edge of palate is more deeply cut, exposing much of sphenoid crest. Postorbital processes are strong and elongated. Dental formula for both species of Styloctenium 1s12/1, C 1/1, P 3/3, M 2/2 (x2) = 30. Incisors are cylindrical, slender, and pointed at tops. Canines are short and thick. In contrast to the Mindoro Stripefaced Fruit Bat, canines of Wallace's Stripe-faced Fruit Bat are not that complex. Cheekteeth have rounded cusps, I, and M? are absent, and P,is only rudimentary. This species is suspected to have declined over the past 15 years (three generations, GL = 5 years, Pacifici et al. 2013) at a rate of 25–29% due to widespread forest loss and hunting throughout much of its range on Sulawesi and adjacent islands.	Styloctenium wallacei is most closely associated with tropical rainforests up to 1,800 m asl and has also been encountered in mixed-gardens (e.g. cocoa, rambutan, and durian plantation) (Maryanto et al. 2011, Yusti 2015, Widayati and Nurjana 2018, Widayati et al. 2020). This species is a solitary, nectarivorous species that also feeds on fruits (Maryanto et al. 2011).	Degradation and the loss of forest habitats due to logging and small-scale agriculture are the primary drivers of the species decline. Further, it is at risk of bushmeat hunting for local consumption in North Sulawesi close to Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (Mickleburgh et al. 2009, Ransaleleh et al. 2020).
Population data on Styloctenium wallacei are not available as the species is usually encountered in very small numbers (1–2 individuals), which is often much lower compared to other Pteropodid bats in Sulawesi. The species population is suspected to be declining by an estimated 25–29% due to forest loss and hunting (Mickleburgh et al. 2009, Ransaleleh et al. 2020). It is unknown if the species' distribution reflects a single location or if it comprises a single population.
Decreasing	This species has been recorded from throughout Sulawesi, including the nearby Buton Island and the Togian Islands (Bergmans and Rozendaal 1988, Maryanto et al. 2011, Yusti 2015, Patterson et al. 2017, Mubarok et al. 2018). The species is suspected to occur on Selayar Island (Heinsohn 2002), but that has yet to be confirmed. Styloctenium wallacei has been found from sea level up to 1,800 m asl (Maryanto et al. 2011, Widayati and Nurjana 2018, Widayati et al. 2020). The type locality for this species is Macassar, Sulawesi, Indonesia.	The species is threatened by hunting for bushmeat for local consumption in North Sulawesi close to Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (Mickleburgh et al. 2009, Ransaleleh et al. 2020).	Terrestrial	While S. wallacei occurs in Lore Lindu National Park (Maryanto et al. 2011), Lambusango Forest Reserve (Patterson et al. 2017), and Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (Ransaleleh et al. 2020), there are no known species-specific conservation initiatives in place for it. Forests where the species is known from should be protected, and degraded forests should be restored. Additional research is needed to inform the species distribution, its population status and trends, and the extent of the threats, including the impacts of hunting on the species. Insights into the species ecology are needed to better inform the species conservation and management.	Australasian FALSE	FALSE	Global	Simmons, N. B., & Cirranello, A. L. (2023).
