From N Mexico (S Sinaloa and S Tamaulipas ) through Guatemala , El Salvador , and Honduras to N Nicaragua .	Head-body 66-70 mm (tailless), ear 12-19 mm, hindfoot 13-16 mm, forearm 41-45 mm; weight 17-23 g. The Honduran Yellow-shouldered Bat is medium-sized and robust. Upperparts are gray-brown, rarely orange-brown. Fur is long (6-8 mm) and thick. Dorsal hairs have three bands, with middle one being paler and buffy. Males have orange or ocherous tawny to dark gray shoulder patches. Underparts are pale gray-brown, tinged with pinkish or light buffy. Short is snout, and forehead rounded. Noseleafis small and simple. Tail membrane is very short and well furred. Base of forearm, femur, adjoining part of wings, and feet are hairy. Cutting edges of lower incisors are deeply bilobed.	Evergreen forests and forest edges, cloudy forests, and secondary forests usually above elevations of 800 m . The Honduran Yellow-shouldered Bat has been captured in agricultural areas such as coffee plantations and livestock paddocks.	In El Salvador , 14 plant species are reportedly consumed by frugivorous Honduran Yellow-shouldered Bats; Hedyosmum mexicanum ( Chloranthaceae ) is the most consumed. In Mexico, it has been observed feeding preferably of Piper ( Piperaceae ) and Solanum ( Solanaceae ). It occasionally eats insects, most commonly by pregnant and lactating females.	In Mexico, pregnant Honduran Yellow-shouldered Bats have been found in November, with one embryo. In El Salvador , pregnant females have been caught in March—September, suggesting continuous polygamic breeding.	Honduran Yellow-shouldered Bats are nocturnal. Activity peaks in the first two hours after dusk, with smaller peaks throughout the night.	No information.	Classified as Least Concern on The IUCN Red List. Roosts sites and foraging area use are unknown for this species. Like many other species in the genus, Sturnira hondurensis probably forages in the understory and prefers the fruit of plants in the family Solanaceae (Fleming 1986). It probably ;roosts mainly in tree cavities although it also uses cracks in river banks, the base of palm leaves and vines (Evelyn and Stiler 2003). ;Five of the 10 females netted in Jalisco (Mexico) were pregnant in late November; each contained a single embryo.	In shade coffee plantations, at Veracruz, Mexico, Cortes-Delgado and Sosa (2014) found ;this species primarily depends on the preservation of intact forest adjacent to modified landscapes, where roosts and fruit are constantly available in abundance. Usually, fewer understory chiropterochorous plants, which are the main item in the diet of this bat and many other sympatric species of frugivorous bats are found at these plantations. A reduction of diversity of trees and density of understory fruit plants may affect the behavior of this and other frugivorous bat species.	This species is apparently common at mid-elevation evergreen forests and forest edges, but its abundance is affected by change to agricultural crops, like coffee (Reid 2009, Cortes-Delgado and Sosa 2014). Tropical deciduous vegetation grew in the narrow valley of the type locality (at Sinaloa, Mexico) but the adjacent hills supported oak (Jones and Phillips 1964). It is probably common at well-preserved montane forests.	Stable	Sturnira hondurensis is known from the states of Sinaloa and Tamaulipas (central Mexico) through northern Nicaragua, except Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, and northern Guatemala, favoring high elevations and wet habitats (Jones and Phillips 1964, Reid 2009, Velazco and Patterson 2013). Records from Costa Rica and Panama, previously referred as to S. ludovici or S. ludovici hondurensis , probably correspond to misidentifications. Terrestrial	Although the geographic range of S. hondurensis is not very wide, it overlaps a number of national parks, natural reserves and protection forests through southern Mexico and northern Central America. Also, it seems locally common to abundant, especially at mid-altitude humid forests, so it probably faces lesser conservation concerns than other species. Some specific information about the ecology of the species, including potential threats posed by changes in land use, needs to be addressed.	Neotropical FALSE	FALSE	Global	Simmons, N.
