The species is in continuing decline as commercial logging and mining are disturbing large areas of vegetation on Rennell Island, converting them to unsuitable habitat and reducing this species’ area of occupancy.	Females bear a single young. Lifespan is approximately 8 or 9 years. The species roosts individually, hanging beneath the upper branches of canopy trees.	The western side of the island is heavily disturbed, and densely populated in some areas. Commercial logging and bauxite mining are rapidly disturbing large areas of Rennell Island and are likely to be major threats to P. rennelli. This species is likely to also be threatened by hunting for food. Local hunting of flying-foxes is common on Rennell Island (T. Lavery pers. comm). The species most often taken is the more common P. tonganus ; however, P. rennelli is also targeted. Although not threatened by large-scale agriculture, subsistence agriculture could significantly impact this species, due to its highly restricted distribution. Cyclones could also be a threat.	The species is known from a very few specimens and some site records.	Decreasing	This little-known flying fox is endemic to the island of Rennell in the Solomon Islands (an EOO of 984 km²). Its area of occupancy (AOO) is less than 515 km².	This species appears on Appendix II of CITES, but it is doubtful that the species is currently traded internationally (J. Lamoreux pers. comm). The species is locally hunted for food.	Terrestrial	This species is listed on Appendix II of CITES. It is poorly-known and field studies are urgently needed to determine the current status of the population. Work is also needed to determine the taxonomic status of Pteropus rennelli . Important sites for roosting and foraging should be identified and protected. The species occurs within the East Rennell World Heritage Site.	Australasian FALSE	FALSE	Global	Simmons, N.
