We follow Simmons (2005) here in including N. varius as a subspecies of N. minutus as the taxonomic status of N. minutus and N. m. varius is unclear.	20000000	Nyctimene minutus	Vulnerable	B1ab(ii,iii,v)	2021	2020-11-25 00:00:00 UTC	3.1	English	Nyctimene minutus is assessed as Vulnerable under criterion B1ab(ii,iii,v) as its extent of occurrence (EOO) is 13,403 km². Its range is severely fragmented over two islands, and it is limited to areas above 700 m. There is a continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat and area of occupancy (AOO) in Buru and Seram islands mainly due to clear-cut logging and mining of its forest habitat. The species population is inferred to be declining due to the loss of habitat.	Nyctimene minutus is a frugivorous species that has been recorded from mid-montane forest (700–900 m) on Buru and Seram islands. The species is assumed to roost singly or in small colonies in the foliage of trees based on similar species. Research is needed to determine the species ecology.	Habitat loss due to clear-cut logging and probably also mining are the main threats to this species (Dudun pers. comm.). This species is probably not hunted, as it is too small.	Data on the species population status are very limited as it is only known from a small number of specimens. The species is known from two (2) locations (Buru and Seram islands), each is assumed to represent a subpopulation. The overall population and number of mature individuals of Nyctimene minutus is inferred to be declining given the species restricted distribution and the past and ongoing forest loss and degradation which is resulting in a decline in its area of occupancy (AOO) on the islands of Buru and Seram. Additional research is needed to confirm the species population status and trends throughout the species range.	Decreasing	Nyctimene minutus is confined to mid to high elevation regions of the islands of Buru and Seram in Indonesia (700 to ca 900 m). The species extent of occurrence is 13,403 km². Surveys on the island of Ambon have not confirmed the presence of N. minutus . The geographically mislabelled specimen from Manado in north Sulawesi is not considered here as part of the range of the species. Additional research is warranted to further illuminate the species distribution.	The species is not known to be hunted or used.	Terrestrial	There are no species-specific conservation measures in place for the species, but. it is present in Manusela National Park on Seram Island. Protection, management, and restoration of its forest habitats is needed to secure the species. Taxonomic research is warranted to clarify the relationship between Nyctimene minutus and N. m. varius . Ecological research is needed to understand the species population status and trends, and determine the species life history, habitat requirements, and threats.
